Things to do
La Duquesa Marina
The small marina is located at the southern end of the beach. The port boasts a wide choice of amenities including a supermarket, bank, butcher and a wide choice of affordable, top class restaurants which include Chinese, Thai, Italian, English and not forgetting Spanish cuisine. There's also a great Italian ice cream shop as well as many boutiques and numerous bars. Boat trips are also available.
Castillo de la Duquesa
The 18 Century fortress of Castillo de la Duquesa stands on the coast in the middle of what was once a large Roman fishing village. It has been suggested that the village may have been called Saltum in classical times, but no definite Latin name has survived.
Water Park
Bahía Park - Parque Acuático
The nearest water park is located in Algeciras.
Other can be located in Mijas and Torremolinos.
Manilva
The white village of Manilva itself is located a few kilometers inland from Sabinillas. The town has a fascinating history which dates back to Roman times and still today there are some remarkably well-preserved Roman Sulphur baths and an Aqueduct. What really typifies Manilva's gastronomy is its fish and seafood. There is no dish more emblematic of the coast of Malaga than fresh sardines roasted on bamboo spits over a wood fire on the beach.
Casares
The picture postcard village with a population of just three thousand. Most of the white villages are beautiful but there is something very special about the sight of Casares that causes the visitor to park the car and simply stare or take a photo. It is hard to believe that this enchanting, typical village is only nine miles from the hustle and bustle of the coast and somehow succeeded in avoiding the coach tour circuit.
Ronda
It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views, and for the deep El Tajo gorge that carries the rio Guadalevín through its centre. Visitors make a beeline for the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the 100m chasm below, for its unparalleled views out over the Serranía de Ronda mountains.
Granada
For the more adventurous, Granada is within reach of Sabillinas for a long day out. It's around 220km or about 2.5 hours drive away, but the Alhambra is magnificent. It's wise to pre-book the tickets for the Alhambra on the internet to avoid disappointment. There are morning or afternoon tickets available.
